Creative Eclipses EP – Cave In – 1999 – HydraHead

First, let me explan that I am a huge fan of Cave In and love absolutly everything they’ve ever made. To me they are a band that transcends metal, hardcore, alternative and the various other labels cast upon them for their over decades long career in the New England music scene. That being said, I present to you all an album that is a must listen for those who want to understand what Cave In is all about in under 30 minutes.

Clocking in at just over 18 minutes, the album features five diverse tracks of slick riffs, powerful vocals and drive that is heard throughout all their releases.

Standout tracks (one could pick all, when there are only five!) are as follows;

“Burning Down the Billboards” – A catchy acoustic pop song, short and sweet with a running time of 1:40.  It is reminiscent of those quintessential Simon & Garfunkel records we’ve all grown up to love and admire for their simplistic beauty and rich vocal melodies.

“Sonata Brodsky” – Hmm, what can I say? It is a 7:41 instrumental track featuring a cavalcade of electronic music and soundscapes to create an always eerie but comforting sense of joy.

“Luminance” - The signature post-hardcore Cave In sound is heard on this epic track. With precise snare rolls and thunderous guitars, you’re practicing on your ass with your face melted off by the first minute.
